Home visits

It is possible to get a home visit if you are too ill or infirm to travel in to the surgery.

If you, or a relative, require a home visit:

  1. Telephone the surgery first thing in the morning, between 8.30am and 10.30am. The receptionist will ask for the patient's name and a contact number. The practice nurse will ring back to obtain further details. If it is very urgent please inform the receptionist immediately.
  2. The practice nurse will then ask a set of questions about the illness and see if there is any possibility of travelling to the surgery for an emergency appointment.
  3. Your request will be passed to the doctors, who will prioritise the calls. The doctor may feel that advice given over the phone will be most appropriate. Also, it may not be a doctor who visits. It may be another member of the team.
  4. Please help the doctor, especially if you live on a busy road, a new housing estate or are particularly difficult to find. When you call, give the nurse full instructions on how to find your house, and a contact number.
If a visit is not urgent then it may be postponed till the next day.

Please do not abuse this service as it is time consuming. The doctors can see more patients if they are in the surgery, and not out visiting patients who may not really require a visit.
