Emergencies

Life-threatening emergencies

In all cases of life-threatening emergencies dial 999 or 112.

Emergencies during surgery hours

If you require emergency care during regular surgery hours then please call 0191 275 5710.

You will be dealt with as quickly as possible either by advice over the telephone from our practice nurse or one of our doctors, given an emergency appointment, or by being given a home visit.

Out of hours emergencies

Outside normal surgery hours there is a service for problems that cannot wait until the next day. Please call 0191 275 5710.

You may be given advice over the phone, be given an appointment at the out-of-hours centre, receive a home visit, or have an ambulance booked.

In genuine emergencies (severe chest pain, breathlessness, collapse, heavy bleeding) it is best to call 999 or 112 for an ambulance.

For poisoning, overdoses and minor accidents it is best to attend accident and emergency (A&E) at hospital.

NHS Direct, which is a 24 hour nurse-led advice line can be contacted on 0845 46 47.
